As a child and adolescent the term â€Å"test† made me cringe inside. However, as a future educator I have developed a considerable amount of knowledge regarding testing and assessment, thus my perspective on this topic has completely transformed. The idea behind test anxiety does exist though for many children, and not only does it negatively impact both the reliability and validity of the test, it also distracts learning. Additionally, over time the term â€Å"testing† has developed a negative connotation among society. I think we as educators are partially to blame for this stigma. Student’s attitudes about tests reflect the teacher’s attitude in nearly all cases. We need to make it engaging for children, which is how I intend to approach testing since it is a way for students to demonstrate what they know and have learned throughout their time in school. Before diving into my perspective, the terms assessment and testing need to be defined. The textbook, Educational Testing and Measurement states that several people are now replacing the word testing with assessment as it does not have such a negative connotation attached to it nor does it sound as evaluative. The authors of the textbook use these terms interchangeably, and that is how they will remain throughout this paper. However, it is important to note the difference in testing/assessment and the assessment process. In most cases, testing and assessment indicate a single measure.
